Even domain names are auctioned these days… If you were thinking of starting an online presence you could do worse than to take a look at this list of available domains provided by moniker. Domain Name Wire seems to think they represent good value.
If you don’t know what RSS is yet, it’s time you learnt. Now that you know you can fully utilise this tool to syndicate a custom auction search into your RSS aggregator. Simply described, you can generate a custom news feed that will alert you when something of interest becomes available on eBay (yes it’s only for eBay, boohoo).
Probably the biggest auctioneer in Australia, http://www.graysonline.com.au/ can have some amazing deals at times depending on which warehouse is clearing what. There are a few things to be weary of when using Grays:
- the picture often is not the actual item
- detailed information about the actual item is not easy to read
- the buyer commission of 12.5%
As always the key is in the detail.

According to an article found here we will see the Trading Post offering free online auction posting services to the Australian market. Hopefully this will give us a better alternative to the dominant force and provide a bit of innovation to the scene. However if a category such as musical instruments has few auctions it may seem the point is lost. More incentives needed to push for retailers to utilise auctions?

Fuel prices might be a lot lower these days but they’ll never ever be zero. For a one off investment you can replace your stinking, polluting, sweat inducing lawn mower with a self propelled sheep. Listed on trademe are 6 cheep sheep. Not only will they mow your lawn on a regular basis but you can eat them when the cost of maintenance gets too high, thereby eliminating waste. How could such a brilliant idea fail?

Think outside inner city Sydney for a moment. Ok I know it’s hard but try for just a moment… Here is a property with not only a house but is also situated on 2500 square metres, has a large multi-car garage and water tanks (desalination plant not required) among other things. For all those inner city dwellers complaining about noise your closest neighbours are 500 metres away! But of course the best for last; this property… comes… with… its… own… OPAL MINE! Why struggle with the boring daily grind when you can dig opals from your own backyard??? (Ok, that didn’t sound right) I mean really, this house sells itself. Buy your house on eBay, sell your opals on eBay, perfect. Almost forgot the ancient dinosaur track. Perfect for the budding archaeologist.
Of course if the location or price doesn’t suit, you may prefer to see this. Only catch is the $1000AUD front up security deposit. Oh, and you have to have somewhere to put the house. Suggestions include but not limited to harbour views, somewhere quiet and rainforest living. Some people have spent more on less.

Just looking at the latest from Canberra of all places. Looks like present economic climate will not overly affect those keen to invest in their collections. And with a lowering in average prices now would be a great time to snap up items normally considered unaffordable. Check the Canberra Times report. This is referring to “real life” auctions but the idea is the same. happy punting.
